The Henley Royal Regatta

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Calibri} "For some, Henley is all about strawberries and champagne, for others it is blood, sweat and tears" PlayerLayer spent the day with Dulwich College at the Henley Royal Regatta. We followed their raceday rituals and began to understand the effort and work that goes into rowing.  The Regatta lasts for five days, over the first weekend in July. Races are head-to-head knock out competitions, raced over a course of 1 mile, 550 yards. It is a cut throat tournament. Unfortunately, Dulwich were victims of the knock out nature of Henley in what was described as 'the race of the day'.   p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Calibri} As the Henley Regatta pre-dates any national or international rowing organisation, it has its own rules and organisation, so it really is a great British sporting tradition. PlayerLayer joined the Dulwich College team at the house they had rented for the duration of the Regatta. They were busy preparing for their race, meeting with officials and watching videos of previous races. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Calibri} We met the Dulwich team back at their boat house to grab a few photos while they prepared to get out on the water for a warm up. After that they donned their new PlayerLayer Gilets and headed off for some food. PlayerLayer are working closely with Dulwich College to design a new rowing range of sports clothing. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Calibri} After wishing the team  good luck, and grabbing a few shots of them getting ready for their race, we headed back to the stewards tent for a good view of the event. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 14.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Calibri} After an early lead the Dulwich boys were neck and neck with their opponents, but began to tire a little and their opponents slipped ahead. Fighting hard,  Dulwich unfortunately could not get the lead back and lost by a very narrow margin.  PlayerLayer have fully embraced the world of rowing and love what the sport stands for. On the day of the race a Dulwich College spectator was overheard saying " If one of the guys misses a session, they all miss a session". We spoke to another Royal Regatta spectator, his hair was white and his blazor striped; the classic look of a rowing veteran. He quoted his son to us " sweat is when my muscles cry ". We thought this summarised the passion that goes into the sport.  Many Thanks to Jack Neville for his photography services on the the day of the event.

I like Lewis's mentality, spirit and passion for rugby. He puts his body on the line every game and will do anything for his team. Freddie's a lad, it's his attitude and energy he gives to the team which i really admire. He's a match winner with the ball and can be destructive with the bat and for these reasons i see him as a role model."How does your PlayerLayer help you succeed?  "Not only does it look good it feels good too. Looking and feeling professional on the pitch definitely helps me raise my game. In order to suceed you need to be passionate about what you do. You have to believe in yourself and your team. Pride, passion and team unity are vital to achieving your goals." Role Models?"I admire Kelly Holmes for her undeniably strong work ethic and her perseverance over the course of her career."How does your PlayerLayer help you succeed?"Unfortunately in hockey you play rain or shine, but my PlayerLayer helps me forget about really bitter winds and freezing cold rain that can effect my level of play. Keeping my hands and arms warm between, aswell as during, matches is essential and my PlayerLayer actually helps considerably. The fit is really great to, I never thought I'd wear baselayer before I discovered how comfortable PlayLayers are.""PlayerLayers ethics of having pride in your school or squad helps me perform as well as I can to help my team succeed in any match or tournament and to keep my head held high whatever the outcome may be."  Role Models?"My favourite sportsman is Lewis Moody, he’s an ex Oakham School boy and like me plays in the back row." How does your PlayerLayer help you succeed?"The team PlayerLayer that I have has been great, since the colder weather has set in it’s been perfect for training and warming up before matches.""PlayerLayers ethos helps me succeed as I believe its impossible to play any sport to the best of your ability if you don’t have pride in the badge your wearing and respect for the guys your playing with. Having pride in your team and knowing your teammates have your back pushes you to work harder and for longer, on and of the pitch."
